A leading tour operator in Luxembourg offers vacation packages to Mediterranean countries and weekend breaks in European cities. It has an online booking platform in partnership with a network of over 1,300 travel agencies and tour operators in Belgium and neighboring countries.

The objectives of this project were to carry out acceptance and regression tests on the new version of the online booking platform, as well as to test the new functionalities introduced.

1- Challenges

During a project to update the online booking platform of a major tour operator in Luxembourg, we were faced with several major challenges. The first challenge was to test the new version of this complex tool exhaustively and efficiently, within a tight timeframe.

This challenge was made all the more arduous by the fact that the tests had to be carried out not only by professional testers, but also by members of the sales team, not usually involved in testing roles. Here are the main challenges encountered:

  • Comprehensive testing of a complex tool in a short space of time.
  • Monitor test sessions run by non-testers (sales).
  • Pass on the “spirit of testing” to the sales team.
2 – Solutions

Faced with the challenges of updating the online booking platform for a major tour operator in Luxembourg, we proposed strategic and effective solutions to ensure the success of the tests. We advised, guided and coached the sales department in the execution of the test sessions, ensuring that the tests were conducted rigorously despite the sales team members’ lack of testing experience. Here are the main actions undertaken:

  • Advise, guide and coach the sales department in the execution of test sessions.
  • Helping the sales team to properly document problems found during test sessions.
  • Train the sales team to improve their testing skills.

This project demonstrated the crucial importance of quality and testing when updating an online booking platform. Thanks to close collaboration and appropriate training, the sales team was able to contribute effectively to the tests, ensuring a smooth transition to the new version of the platform.
